## What a client type is for

A client type is a label on the client record. It is how you sort and filter your clients table, and it is the fastest way to answer "who are my first-time buyers this quarter?" without reading every row. It does not change the math and your client never sees it.

## The built-in types

Every account starts with five: First-Time Buyer, Move-Up Buyer, Homeowner (Refinance), Real Estate Investor, and Agent Referral. These cover most books as they are.

## Set the type on a client

1. 1

Open the client from your dashboard, or create a new one with New Client.

2. 2

Choose from the Client Type field in the client's information form.

3. 3

Save. The type shows as a column in your clients table, which you can sort by.

## Customize the list

The five built-ins are a starting point, not a fixed set. If your book runs on different distinctions — a divorce buyout practice, physician loans, relocation — rename them or add your own.

1. 4

Open Settings, then under the Clients group open Client Types.

2. 5

Type a name into Add a client type and add it. Example: "Divorce Buyout".

3. 6

Rename or remove any existing type, including the built-ins.

4. 7

Reset the list back to the five built-ins at any time if you want to start over.

Removing a type does not delete clients. Clients already carrying that type keep the value on their record; the type just stops being offered for new ones.
